Nature in art
In this work Per Kirkeby has used primarily earth-colours, which give associations to nature. It is not a question of realistic reproductions of natural phenomenon, because abstract elements are playing with recognizable elements. The works gives, rather, an emotional impression.
In dialog with art history
Depicting nature is an important historic category within visual art. Especially the Romantic idea about nature as a mirroring picture of moods and impressions has been important to Per Kirkeby. He is much aware of the methods and meanings that are activated by tradition – not least in the North. Moreover, Per Kirkeby is very interested in the processes and qualities of nature.
