The Botanical Museum and the Botanical Library is a part of the Natural History Museum of Denmark.
| Denmark’s central museum of botany, a department of the University of Copenhagen
More than two million different plants in the centre of Copenhagen
The Museum’s large collection of flowers, plants, mosses and algae is usually reserved for the eyes of scholars and students at the University. However, during the summer months from June to August, the collections are open to the public. The summer exhibitions centre on different themes based on the Museum’s permanent collections.
The Museum’s large, internationally known, collection contains 2.510.000 different plants, collected through expeditions from all over the earth. The earliest of which took place in the 1760s.
The Botanical Library and the plant collection database
Another interesting part of the Museum is the Botanical Library, which contains an impressive book collection on botanical themes. The Library is visited by both Danish and international scholars, and has an extensive database with visual and written information about the various plants. The database is primarily oriented towards research but is also well worth a visit for those with an interest in botany. Along with the Zoological Museum and the Geological Museum, the Botanical Museum is run by the Faculty of Sciences at the University of Copenhagen. | |
