| A platform for architecture, city development and building of the future
The Danish Architecture Centre is a multifarious house in rapid change. With exhibitions, lectures, city walks and conferences the house has the goal of communicating and developing knowledge and visions about the architecture, building works and city development of the future.
The house
DAC is situated on a first row location to the Copenhagen harbour in the beautiful Gammel Dok Pakhus. The striking old warehouse is one of the most characteristic building profiles on Christianshavn and was named after Denmark’s first dry dock, founded in 1739.
Visions for the future
As a living place at the forefront of the new trends, DAC wants to be a globally orientated platform for visionary development, giving input to the debate on city development and new inspiration for both the culture and the business community. DAC’s activities are therefore modern and aimed at the future – also when the focus is on communicating Danish architecture and building works. Through changing exhibitions and events DAC communicates the newest Danish and international city development projects and show future visions for architecture. DAC is also a place which creates a space for a cultural audience with an interest in how we shape and develop the city.
Copenhagen X
DAC’s activities also take place outside the warehouse and out in the city. The project Copenhagen X, which is a open city and residence exhibition, guides you around Copenhagen, opens your eyes to the changes in the city and creates debate about the future of the capitial. Join guided tours of new city areas, squares, and cultural institutions and residences with special architecture or grab a mp3 player and take a podwalk to new and unknown places in the city.
View of Copenhagen
On the first floor, with a view of Knippelsbro bridge, the Black Diamond of the Royal Library – indeed all of the Copenhagen harbour, DAC’s café has one of Copenhagen’s most beautiful views. Enjoy the sandwich of the day or delicious cakes.
